The Arena

Times were hard, but not the way you expect it. All the nations had gone to war with each other, but why?

The Earth is now sand. All the continents are sand. We still have the waters that surround the Earth, but no life in them as far as I know.

"The Arena" is the most popular stop where I'm from. People come, some go, and some are competing to win. Life is hard, but we're all forced to live with it.

    "Hey Ev, find anything good?"

    "Nah, not really, you?"

"Just a few $1.00's we could use at the trading post."

"Good idea, need any mechanical parts? Cause I just found some."

    "Yes I do actually."

"We should head back Nate, the sun's going down."

Little did we know that our lives were going to change very soon.

"Evelyn, Nate, you're back! I have great news for you!"

    "What is it Marina?"

"You two got picked as the next competitors for The Arena! Isn't that exciting?!"

"No it's not! For you it might, but for some of us, absolutely NOT!

"Why don't you like The Arena? I thought you loved that place?"

    "I NEVER loved that place!"

"I'm sorry Ev, I just got excited that finally you and Nate can share your talent to the world."

"Thank you for the apology, but I don't think these people would consider dancing a talent."

"Just trust me. Oh which reminds me, I made you guys outfits for the performance."

"They're gorgeous! Thank you so much.''

Nate and I trained hard hard for six days every week, breaking only on Saturday. Finally the day came, a long car came and got us from our camp and started driving to The Arena.

     "You doing ok Evelyn?"

"No, we're about to dance at the most popular stop in our region."

     "I feel the same."

     "Alright we're here, good luck."

     "Thank you sir."

We waited for what seemed like hours until finally our names were called.

"It's ok Evelyn, I'll be with you every step of the way, literally."

     "Thanks Nate."

"Ladies and gentlemen, get ready for our next competitors, Nate and Evelyn!"

We were in there for what seemed like ages. I knew that the people weren't entertained, we were going to lose, then all the sudden, everyone disappeared except for two people. It was me and Nate. Then I realized, it doesn't matter if they like it, it only matters as long as we like it.

As we continued, I looked back at myself in the seat, and I see her smile before she fades into nothing. When Nate and I finished, I heard roars of approval.

     "We did it Evelyn."

     "Yeah, we did."

"Ladies and gentlemen, I know you're wondering if if the won or not, well from the performance I saw, they won!"

We were welcomed back home to the waiting arms of our friends, and that was the greatest gift of all.
